No disciplinary infractions during confinement

Not on the 18 U.S.C. §3632(d)(4)(D) exclusion list
RDAP eligible / completing
18 U.S.C. §3621(e): documented substance abuse history, no disqualifying priors, medium security or lower

These dates depend on people, paperwork, and deadlines you’ll never see. A recommendation has to clear 7 signoffs before it even reaches the RRM, and errors on either end (wrong assessment date, wrong baseline for the 10% calculation) happen more often than they should. Federal Case Consulting has been through this process and offers a free consultation to help you avoid the mistakes that cost other people months.

Statutory Credit Breakdown

About this estimate
  • Enter a sentence length to see projected dates.
What do these terms mean?
GCT: Good Conduct Time
Up to 54 days per year of your imposed sentence, for maintaining a clean disciplinary record. Fixed at intake based on sentence length; not affected by programming.
FSA: First Step Act Time Credits
10 or 15 days of credit for every 30 days of approved programming, for eligible, low/minimum-risk inmates. Up to 365 days can shorten your custody term directly; any credit earned beyond that goes toward pre-release placement.
PATTERN
BOP's recidivism risk assessment tool. Your score (Minimum/Low/Medium/High) determines whether you earn FSA credit at all, and at what rate.
SCA: Second Chance Act
The general authority BOP uses to place people in a halfway house (RRC) or home confinement before release. This is a request/recommendation, not a guarantee.
RRC: Residential Reentry Center
The formal name for a halfway house.
Home Confinement
Serving the final part of a sentence at a home address instead of a facility. Capped at the lesser of 10% of the sentence or 6 months under SCA, but FSA-earned credit isn't subject to that cap.
RDAP: Residential Drug Abuse Program
A 9-month treatment program that can reduce your sentence by 6-12 months (tiered by sentence length), for those with a documented substance abuse history. Applied before FSA credit is calculated.
TDAT / CTS: Transitional Treatment
The community-based follow-up treatment component required to fully complete RDAP and receive its sentence reduction.
This tool applies current 18 U.S.C. §3624(b), §3624(c), and §3632 calculation methods as a planning estimate. It is not legal advice and is not affiliated with the Bureau of Prisons. Home confinement eligibility follows the statutory cap (lesser of 10% of the imposed sentence or 6 months); actual computations depend on BOP policy statements, individualized PATTERN assessments, and case-manager discretion. Verify against bop.gov or with counsel.
